Cold Feet

  1. Dear Plum,
I do empathise with your dilemma. In my new house the (sort of) sea is just outside our front door so I can rush down to paddle when I like. I can't swim like you, but I'm busy building a new sea wall, just in case, so I spend a very long time up to my tummy and past my ears collecting suitable stones. Unfortunately, on the odd day when even I think it's a bit cold, I can see my mum thinking 'boots, she needs boots'.....I DO NOT WANT BOOTS....so I have to plunge in and try to look brave and hide my purple toes..At least with black feet you don't have that problem.
    Yours enviously, Fudge xx

    1. Oh Fudge. I agree about boots. I have boots when I'm in Scotland because of standing in the sea all day. My feet get soggy and then they get sand-papered on the mussel beds. So in fact the boots are quite good. Luckily they're black so its not embarrassing. I can't get them off anyway.

  2. Just looking at that cold, grey surf gives me goosebumps.

Is Helen crazy? She needs some fur...

    1. She says it makes her feel wonderful. I have fur and it's still cold.

  3. Get in there, girl! Any more dithering and your title as Wild Swimming Champion of Suffolk will be at risk... but then again I see your point. It looks cold enough on the shore let alone in the surf.
Sorry to hear you have mice - a perennial Suffolk problem. A few years ago we were infested. Sitting by the fire one evening, I had one behind the sideboard, two under the dresser, one behind the bookcase, and one being chased by Katie round and round the room. I am not joking. I decided to admit defeat and go to bed, only to find there were five more in there! That's what comes of having a soft heart. So I'll decline your offer of mice and hang on till next year when a lovely furry new dog will no doubt arrive.
In the meanwhile an e-pat from James

    1. Yes! A new furry dog will arrive, and next year is any minute now. Oh good. Especially as you are so soft-hearted. I think you should hurry up and find one as soon as possible and Katie would agree with me.

  4. Have you heard of the "polar bear club"? That's where humans dive into the icy river and swim around a bit. They say it's invigorating, but I say it's a bit off the rocker.

We just finished your book Plumdog and loved it!

    1. So glad you liked it Jacqueline.
I didn't know about the Polar Bear Club. I think I'm going to join it. Do you know where it is?

  5. Dear Frozen Plum,

Helen sounds like a very brave and slightly nutty woman. I think you are very right in staying out of the water, nothing good can come of having frozen fur.

    1. You are right. I think you would like her. It's very warm here at the moment. All the Spring bulbs are coming up already. It's quite nice. You could come and live here, Gracie. Lots of love Plum xx

  8. I love your graphic novel, Plum. And you are as cute a dog in real life as you are in drawing format. :)
