  2. Esther is quite the diva sometimes, is she not, dear Plum? But so are you, admit it. ;)
Tell your mom I'd love to jump right into this beautiful picture and join Esther and you in your adventures. I got your book not long ago (didn't know of you before, and yes, I'm ashamed) and I've read it twice already.

    1. Oh, Heidi. That is music to my ears.
Yes, you are right about Esther. I can tell that you are a very perceptive person. I can't say any more in case she reads this - she has left a comment below, on this blog, so nowhere is safe.
Thank you very much for your wise words ( apart from the bit about me, which I'm glossing over).

    1. Dear Vicki, Bailey and Tulip, (It's lucky I can remember things because you put Plum instead of Tulip!!)
Thank you for your message. I always like getting them.

  4. Dear Plum,

There are plenty more sticks in the forest; if Esther wanted you old spit covered stick then you just need to get a fresh new one.
I am rather ambivalent about the whole stick thing, I did find a small one on the balcony once and it was only ok. I do have a great love of Hostas though, and tear chunks out of my Mum's plants. That woman can really yell when motivated.

    Love, Gracie

Ed. Note: Gracie found a TWIG not a stick; chewed it up, and barfed on my living room carpet. She is not the lady she thinks she is.

    1. Dear Gracie,

Your mom obviously hasn't forgotten about the stick/twig incident. It sounds to me as if she is still holding some resentment about it and you know what they say about that… if you don't let things go, they STICK!!!! ha ha oh my. That is my best joke especially for you, dear Gracie.

PS I may be a little drunk on Thames water. Just been for a swim.

    2. Is Thames water made of scotch or ale? I am not allowed to drink alcohol, although I have sniffed my Mom's wine; it made my nose itch.

  5. Could we have a picture like this on the cover of Volume 2? James lent his copy of Vol 1 to his sister and she spilt tea all over the stylish white cover. Our copy now does not have a dust jacket. Something more impressionistic like this would help the tea stains blend in, if you could oblige. love, Katie

    1. Dear Katie,
That's brilliant that you've lost the dust jacket. I am so sick of seeing that picture of me. If I were you I would get a big fat pencil and draw a self-portrait on the white cover underneath. Or something. Maybe a lamb chop. Or James.

  6. Nothing gets between Esther and her stick, except a frisbee that is. How we love our River walks with Emma and Plum. Emma captures the magic of it splendidly with her awe inspiring, dappled lighted watercolours. Beautiful. Love Trisha, the mother of Esther.

  7. Dear Trisha,
Everyone has noticed that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get their stick/frisbee/ball/squeaky toy back from Esther. I have seen her with all those things in her mouth at once.
But nothing will ever come between her and me either. She will always be my, probably, apart from Liffey, best friend.
