Missing Her

  1. Dear Plum,
Thanks for five laughs and a sigh.
I can't help you with the weather, but I'm trying my best on the dog. The trouble with rescue websites is the dogs are all so deserving. I've found two old dears, 10 and 12, whose owner has gone into a home and who need somewhere to spend their retirement too. I wouldn't have them very long, but what do you think?
    love, James
PS. I've just started the second story, 'Summer At St Pringle's', at ofmisspringleandoctavia.blogspot.com if you're interested...

    1. Dear James,
I always like Old-Timers. Are you still thinking about them? Sorry this is so late. I've been a bit busy. Glad to hear you have too.

  2. You are such a nice person Plum, so forgiving and forbearing! I hope you have made sure everyone is noticing....
I have had the ex-puppy (Archie) staying for WEEKS now and he sleeps in all my beds, has chomped his way through every last toy (his poo looks a bit funny sometimes)and takes the food from my mouth if I pause for a bit of a think and a yawn. But I must admit I have also learnt how to yell until our demands are met, that wading through big lakes at low tide up to your neck and then rolling in sand until dry is really good fun and that having a warm furry tummy to rest your head one while snoozing can be very pleasant. Mum takes us out on a double lead so I have learned to co-operate and be considerate, as well as to growl very, very fiercely.

If you come to the Oystercatcher while you're in Scotland, you can join our pub pack. Our job is patrol the beach and tidy up after careless eaters....you would like it!
Love from Fudge and Archie xxxxx

PS. I'm coming to live quite near you in London and hear that I have to be tidy and fashionably well groomed and wear coats? Surely this can't be true?! Love, Archie xx

    1. dear Fudge,
How exciting that you are coming to live in London. Of course you have to go to Smart Dogs and have your hair cut and I generally get my coats from Canine Style in New York because I'm that sort of girl. Don't worry if you can't keep up. I expect it will be obvious that you are a hayseed from the country which is much nicer and more interesting anyway.
I am on the oyster catcher patrol at the moment and was dive-bombed by a black-headed gull this afternoon. It was quite scary.

  3. Dear Plum, even if you blamed your sister for your rudeness and she forgave you (and being a true gentleman so did I). Love Alf xx

  4. sigh....sisters.
My sister knows I hate beets.....so she cuts out pictures of them and MAILS them to me on purpose just to annoy me. Or she'll hide it in my birthday card. Isn't that just awful?
Sometimes I wish she'd been left on the steps of a (very nice) home for foundlings years ago.
But I couldn't do witout her really.
p.s I'm so sorry about your favorite ball. You need to return the favor when you visit Liffey next!

    1. Dear Hilarie,
Your sister sounds beastly. I'm not sure what a beet is but if you don't like it, I probably don't either. I'm glad you like her really. I couldn't do without Liffey either.

  5. Sisters...man, I just don't know. My sister Zoe got really sick the other night and we had to rush her to the hospital. The doctor said she has something called "Old Dog Vestibular Disease" and since she's 90, I guess it fits. They tell me that she had the blood flow cut off in her brain that controls her equilibrium so she feels like she's on the teacup ride at Disneyworld and can't get off, which is just about the worst thing I can think of that could happen to anyone ever. She's given me lots of poundings over the years and won't let me play with her toys and is generally a giant pain in the tail, but I really, really like her and...well, I'm scared. She's the only sister I have and we don't know if she'll get better. Even if I got to play with her toys and all of the snacks were for me and...uh...wait a minute...anyway, when you see Liffey, give her a big slurp just for me.

    xoxo

  6. Oh, Nick. I'm really, really sorry to hear that. I can't think of anything worse than not knowing if someone is going to get better. If it was my sister I would be miserable too. I really hope her medicine will work. Maybe it's like meniere's disease in humans? I will be thinking of you and keeping everything crossed.
    Much love Plum xxxx
